Scan Clan is a free document scanner app built by Abhishek Chauhan, its founder and owner, and published by Spirikle, based in Chandigarh, India. It is a small operation: the same people who write the code answer the e-mail.

What we make
Scan Clan turns the camera on a phone into a document scanner. It finds the edges of a page in the frame, straightens the photo, evens out the lighting, and produces a PDF you can sign, password-protect, compress, split, combine, watermark, print or share. Text recognition runs on the device, so a scan becomes searchable without being uploaded to be read.
It runs on Android and iOS, on Windows, macOS and Linux, and in a browser. The camera, QR scanning and haptics are phone features; everything else works on all of them, and the same document library reaches every device you sign in on.
Spirikle also builds File Clan, a PDF reader and editor that shares Scan Clan's document engine.
Why it is free
Every feature is free, including the ones other scanner apps put behind a subscription: signatures, password-protected exports, compression, watermarks, splitting and combining, and 500 MB of storage on the account. There is no paid tier to move any of it into, no trial that expires, and no advertising anywhere in the app.
That is a deliberate choice rather than a launch promotion. A scanner is a tool people reach for a few times a month, and a subscription for a tool used that way is a bad deal for the person paying it. If it ever changes, it will change in public - in the Terms of Use and on the pricing page - and not quietly inside an update.
How we handle your documents
Scanning, edge detection, filtering and text recognition all run on your device. Nothing is uploaded in order to make a scan. Finished documents are stored in your account so they survive a lost phone and reach your other devices, and you can delete any of them, or the whole account, whenever you want.
We ask Google for your name, e-mail address and profile picture when you sign in that way, and for nothing else; you can use an e-mail address and password instead. The Privacy Policy says exactly what is collected and why, and the same text is readable inside the app under Settings. To have the account and everything in it deleted, write to support@spirikle.com from the address it uses.
Where we are
Spirikle is based in Chandigarh, India. The Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the Republic of India, and the seat of arbitration is Chandigarh.
