# View and edit PDF metadata

See what a PDF says about itself — title, author, the software that made it — and change or clear it. **The PDF stays on your device.**

**Edit PDF metadata** is an interactive tool that runs in a web browser at https://spirikle.com/tools/edit-pdf-metadata/. It processes files on the visitor's own device; nothing is uploaded. There is nothing to call from Markdown — open the page to use it.

## How to view and edit PDF metadata

### 1. Add your PDF

Drop the PDF onto the box above. Its current properties fill the form.

### 2. Edit or clear

Change any field, or empty it to remove that property from the file altogether.

### 3. Save

Press Save PDF and download the updated file. The pages are not touched.

## What your PDF says about you

PDFs often carry the author's name, the program and computer they were made on, and a working title like "Final v3 (do not send)". It travels with the file and anyone can read it in their PDF reader's properties.

Clearing those fields before you send a document is a small privacy habit. Setting a proper title is a courtesy too: it is what shows in a browser tab and in search results.

## Questions

### Why does my old title still show in some readers?

Some PDFs store their properties twice — once in the classic place and once as XMP. If the file has an XMP copy, leave "Also remove the XMP copy" ticked so every reader shows the new values.

### Does this change the pages?

No. Only the document properties change; the pages are copied exactly.

### Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?

No. The tool runs entirely in your web browser: your files are opened and processed on your own phone or computer, and nothing is sent to a server — not to ours, not to anyone else's. The page is even set up so the browser itself blocks it from sending data elsewhere. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.

### Is it really free?

Yes, completely. There is no sign-up, no daily limit, no watermark and no paid version of this tool. Because the work happens on your own device rather than on our servers, it costs us nothing to run, so there is nothing to charge for.
