# Add a watermark to a PDF

Stamp a word like CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or COPY across every page of a PDF. **Done on your device — the PDF is not uploaded.**

**Watermark PDF** is an interactive tool that runs in a web browser at https://spirikle.com/tools/watermark-pdf/. It processes files on the visitor's own device; nothing is uploaded. There is nothing to call from Markdown — open the page to use it.

## How to add a watermark to a PDF

### 1. Add your PDF

Drop the PDF onto the box above, or choose it from your device.

### 2. Write the watermark

Type the text, then choose once in the middle or repeated across the page, diagonal or straight, and set the size, colour and opacity.

### 3. Add and download

Press Add watermark and download the stamped PDF.

## Marking a copy before you send it

A watermark on a copy of your ID, a bank statement or a lease says what it was shared for — "For rental application only" — which makes it less useful to anyone who gets hold of it later.

The watermark is drawn on top of each page at the opacity you choose, so the content underneath stays readable.

## Questions

### Can I use any language?

For now the watermark supports Latin letters, numbers and common punctuation. Text in other scripts is refused with a message rather than coming out garbled.

### Can someone remove the watermark?

A determined person with PDF editing software can. For something that cannot be peeled off, convert the watermarked PDF to images with [PDF to JPG](/tools/pdf-to-jpg/) and back with [JPG to PDF](/tools/jpg-to-pdf/).

### Are my PDFs uploaded anywhere?

No. The tool runs entirely in your web browser: your files are opened and processed on your own phone or computer, and nothing is sent to a server — not to ours, not to anyone else's. The page is even set up so the browser itself blocks it from sending data elsewhere. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.

### Is it really free?

Yes, completely. There is no sign-up, no daily limit, no watermark and no paid version of this tool. Because the work happens on your own device rather than on our servers, it costs us nothing to run, so there is nothing to charge for.
